So am I not ALLOWED to be worried? Does it make me a big cry baby if I wonder if Ernie's okay? Helga, Zach, too. Why do they both have to go have such dangerous jobs, huh? Oh, wait, that makes me disloyal to the cause or something. Yeah, well. Mum didn't die serving this war. It was completely senseless and pointless and maybe that really ought to stir me to battle but I'd really rather just honour her memory by staying alive, thanks.

I don't belong here. Most of these people have come here because they're Undesirables. People who'd just as soon be slaughtered as greeted on the street. Not people who run away from their problems when it gets too big.

Oi, I don't know, I just don't know. I do want to help, of course I do. I just wish I knew how to do that, take care of my friends, and not let my family face yet another loss, all at once.

I've never been a big fan of mice. Oh, sure, in cages they're alright. Running around on a wheel or licking a salt block or whatever. But wild ones? Ones that run across your feet while you're walking down a mostly dark hallway heading back from the loo at night? Not good. Not good at all. Sorry if I woke anyone, I didn't intend to scream quite so loudly. They also tend to spark nightmares but

Mice? Honestly? Emma and Crookshanks must be getting lazy.

At any rate, don't fret too much. You didn't wake me up, and Michael's usually out late anyway.

Oh, please don't say that, now I'm more worried! What if it wasn't a mouse at all? Then what else might it have been?

Given this house... at worst, it was a doxy, but it sounds like it didn't bite you, so it was most likely nothing but a mouse. Honestly, don't worry. You're fine, and you'll continue being fine.

Mice in class are slightly different from mice on my feet in the middle of the night, Harry! Those at least I knew were coming.

As Terry said, you have two cats in the house, they should be having fun trying to chase them. Maybe with all the mice they are getting bored of them.

I can buy some mice catchers for the house if you want?

Oh and it's okay. You didn't wake me up. I didn't have to bartend last night and was fast asleep. I am a very deep sleeper.

They were probably quite busy with other things, you know. Crookshanks is likely plotting to take over the world, after all, and I'm sure he's only corrupting Emma with him.

But, really, it was only the one. Though now I'm a bit nervous that it wasn't even a mouse, I never did get a light.

I have to wonder if Crookshanks isn't human sometimes. He always seems like he is up to something.

Want me to look into it for you?

He looks at me funny. I can't decide if he thinks I'm dinner or if he just wants a backscratch.

Would you?? I mean, it could be nothing, or it could've been Emma's snack wandering off, but honestly, I might've woken the dead with that scream.

Except you.

With that cat you never know! I swear he hissed and was about to use me as a scratching post one day. I just lunged at him and he ran away.

I am sure it is nothing, but to calm your nerves I will check it out.

If the dead do awaken one day, do let me know yeah?

Crookshanks had best not be corrupting Emma, if he knows what's good for him, especially not in the way I'm thinking.

What on Earth is so wrong about being overprotective of Emma? Is it against the law for one to love one's cat?

Oh, please, Michael. You aren't fooling anyone, you know.

I don't really know, but it is just slightly strange how overprotective you are. It is not against the law.

Michael, Emma is an exceptionally brilliant specimen of feline. Not only does she lack the emotional coldness of most cats, but she's also incredibly intelligent in her own right. And, honestly, let's just say that I owe her a great deal, which is why I'm so overprotective.

Also, you ruined the set-up for a brilliant joke at your expense. Hmph.

Well. It was going to go like this.

You: I would hate to be that cat.
Me: Oh, please, Michael. You aren't fooling anyone, you know.
You: What on Earth are you talking about?
Me: Michael, honestly. Everyone knows that you want to be Emma so that I'll pamper you. There's really no use denying it anymore.

Was it now?

You want to pamper me don't you so if you tell me I would say that then I would want to be pampered by you. A part of me does want to be...

It doesn't sound like that bad of a prospect. Did I just actually sort of flirt with you?

It was, actually! Additionally, it was brilliant, and you killed it. I may have to pout to show how upset with you I am.

I'd tell you to ask Emma how nice being pampered by me is, but all she'd really do is lick you or rub against your leg.

You will have another chance sooner or later.

You will have to pout a lot to get me to crack.

I don't understand cat so I guess asking her is out of the question. You could just show me how nice it is?

WHY am I still flirting!!

Are you questioning my ability to effectively work a mood, Michael? Because, if you are, just heed my warning: you do not want to go there.

Now why in the ever-expansive mind of Merlin would I make things that easy for you?

I suppose I will. In fact, I think I'll go pout where Mrs. Weasley can see me, and then continue to pout even after she makes me her fabulous shortbread biscuits.

Michael, I have no interest in making anything easy for you. You should know this by now.

No, Ernie, mice are cute when they're in a cage twitching their little noses and waiting for some cheese or an apple or something. Mice are not cute when they sneak up on you when you're half asleep and wandering around a creepy old dank scary house in the dark.
