Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Name: Hannah Elisabeth Abbott
Age: 21
Former House: Hufflepuff
Wand: 9 and a half inch maple with a dragon heartstring core
Patronus: As someone gentle, quiet, but with her own fierce independence, Hannah's Patronus takes the shape of a fox.
Boggart: Hannah's boggart is, quite simply, darkness. It would take the form of a large black cloud and would procede to overwhelm her until it was banished.
Political view: After joining the DA, losing her mum to Death Eaters, and being friends with Harry, Hermione, and Ron, Hannah is firmly against Voldemort. Though she's still wary about fighting, she knows if pressed, she'd take a very active role. She isn't Order affiliated yet, but she supports them and their work and isn't opposed to joining.
Sexuality: Hannah finds the whole same sex thing intriguing, but could only ever see herself snogging a boy, let alone doing more.
PB: Brooke Nevin

Personality:

Hannah is a leader, but in a much more quiet and understated way than her fellow prefect, Ernie MacMillan. Despite her ability to lead others, Hannah's much more likely to let someone else take the lead, adding in her two knuts whenever necessary. She also looked up to Ernie, willing to let him do the speaking on 'their' stance of things; supporting Cedric over Harry, believing Harry as the heir to Slytherin, and, in the end, standing up for Harry against the Ministry. Though she typically took the quieter role, Hannah wasn't at all afraid to let her opinion be known. Never one to cause a stir, Hannah would simply tell you her stance on things and let it stand. If challenged, she wouldn't back down, but she refused to argue with you over it. In a sense, it was pure stubbornness. In another, it was Hannah simply being decisive and solid in her beliefs.

Fact is, however, Hannah doesn't like to start drama. She's not argumentative at all, and prefers to keep the peace. She also doesn't like being confronted without having the chance to gather her thoughts. For the most part, she's quite logical, looking at all sides of an argument before launching into it. She is, in fact, so logical that the Sorting Hat almost chose Ravenclaw as her Hogwarts home. In the end, however, it was Hannah's determination, strong will, and pure loyalty that landed her in Hufflepuff.

Not a very outgoing girl, Hannah tends to keep to herself unless pestered otherwise. She does enjoy going out, but prefers one-on-one time, or small groups of friends to huge crowds. At parties, she's most likely to be the one found sitting on the couch, waiting to be approached. She can be fun, though, when given the chance. She just doesn't tend to do so when there's too many people around.

More than her leadership, Hannah was chosen as a prefect due to her sense of responsibility. Always a rule follower, Hannah was an ideal choice to make sure others followed them. She was quite a bit more outspoken about such things before her mother's passing. Now, though she herself is still apt to conform and do the 'right' thing, she's not nearly as adamant about others doing so. She's withdrawn a great deal and hides behind the friends that stood by her right after her mum's attack.

History: (At least three paragraphs)

Hannah was living a very simple life for many years. No one worked harder than Hannah. Though she knew she'd never have the mind of someone like Hermione Granger, she was still smart, and threw herself into her schoolwork. She's a muggleborn, and her letter came as a surprise. She didn't quite bury herself in the culture the way some did, however. As often as she could, Hannah tried to get caught up with the pop icons and music and literature occuring back home. She loved boy bands like Take That, sang along to the Spice Girls even at school, and enjoyed teen magazines. During summer hols, she got caught up with her shows on the telly, and learned to love the VCR, and later the DVD player during its inception.

Still, when she was at Hogwarts, Hannah was entirely devoted to her school work, throwing herself into her classes. Herbology was fun, and did have her Head of House as the professor, but where Hannah truly excelled was Charms. Transfiguration was her weak point, and she'd study twice as hard for that, so much so that she panicked during her Transfiguration OWL and multiplied a ferret into an entire flock of flamingos. After that, she refused to transfigure anything unless someone pleaded with her, and ended up dropping the class as soon as NEWT levels began.

Hannah's the middle child of three, born to two muggles. Neither her older brother Neil or her younger brother Madeline are magical, and both reacted to the news of Hannah's powers very differently. Neil, your typical overprotective older brother, was proud but worried about his baby sister going away to school by herself. He saw her off to Platform 9 3/4 himself, and rather enjoyed becoming immersed in the world that surrounded them. He waited eagerly for each of Hannah's letters, and wrote back quickly, fascinated by the idea of sending his post by a tawny coloured barn owl that Hannah had named Marvin. Maddy, on the other hand, didn't take so well to her sister's Hogwarts letter. In fact, she got downright snippy. Where once the Abbott girls had been closer than twins, Maddy began distancing herself from her big sister. She was only a year and a half younger, and her role model had been taken away. A part of her held out hope that she'd be receiving a letter too, and when she didn't, things only got worse. Hannah hated going home for hols, and stayed at school every Christmas that she could, and all Easter holidays.

All of that changed, however, during Hannah's sixth year. Before Herbology one morning, Professor Sprout pulled her aside, a solemn look on her face. Hannah was afraid it was about her marks, and was ready to spiel off an apology for the slacking in her work. The news, however, was much worse. Hannah's mother had been attacked on an everyday shopping trip and had been killed by Death Eaters. Hannah sent an owl home immediately, pleading with her father to let her return home. After he found out exactly who it was who'd killed Mrs. Abbott and why, her father agreed immediately. With a rushed goodbye to Ernie, begging him to tell the others, Hannah was floo'ed back home personally via the fireplace in Professor Sprout's office.

The tension that had built over the years between the Abbott sisters melted almost immediately. Hannah stepped into the role of big sister all over again, comforting Maddy and offering her everything. She also had to step up as the oldest woman in the house. Quickly, Hannah had to learn to cook, clean, and mend feelings. She had just turned seventeen when her mother was attacked, so she at least had the pressure of not becoming a qualified witch off of her shoulders. But she still had the panic of not completing her NEWTs. So, with some work, she began doing some of her coursework from home while her sister was in school. Though her scores weren't remarkable, Hannah still ended up passing and began looking into careers in wizarding.

Maddy was much more accepting of her sister by then, and let her go more easily than she had before. With that off of her shoulders, Hannah was able to get a job as a secretary in the Ministry for Magic in the Magical Law Enforcement Department. It wasn't anything like being a mediwitch, which had been her original dream, but it was work and she was allowed back around others who could do magic. It also put her in London, so she's able to frequent both Diagon Alley, and the muggle city. Hannah felt she had the best of both worlds, and was able to embrace her old friends all over again. It wasn't the future she'd once hoped for, but, without her mum, she'd take what she could get.
